For your Safety...
These guides have been written in good faith so you can enjoy the walks in each area. You are responsible for your own safety
Please note that whilst the walks are mostly stile-free, the paths are NOT suitable for wheelchairs or prams
Where stiles are present there will also be a dog-gate for your furry companion to pass through safely.
Remember that most paths here in the Lakes are rugged, and can be stoney, slippy and steep
We want you to enjoy the mountains, but, whilst they are fun, they can also be very dangerous.
Equip yourself for the ground underfoot, the weather conditions, and ensure you take enough clothing, food and drink with you.
Know what to do if things go wrong and never try to cross rivers in spate after rain, find a safer route.
Always turn back if you aren't sure or don't feel safe.
Follow the Countryside Code
Please keep your dog and livestock safe - by law dogs must be kept under close control around livestock
and Farmers may kill dogs which are chasing their sheep
We also recommend that readers take a map and compass and know how to use them..
Do not rely solely upon the free GPX downloads - technology can go wrong the moment you need it the most
(Or the dog might eat your GPS!) 🙂

GPS Notes
If you can’t read a map or simply prefer to use GPS navigation, we provide free GPX tracks for all of the walks in our books. However, we strongly recommend that you treat them as a secondary means of route-finding, whose main purpose is to clear up any ambiguity, for example where there have been changes on the ground. Due to some people downloading the GPS files without first purchasing the books, we've had to change the way we do things with the GPS access. Please email us stating which books you've purchased, then after a simple check question we'll email the files over to you. Please let us know if you'd also like to subscribe to our monthly newsletter.
How Does it work?
If you opt to use the GPX files, you will be able to follow each route on either a dedicated GPS device, or a smartphone using an appropriate app. How you utilise the GPX files will depend on the device and/or app you choose to use for this purpose. We are unable to provide detailed information on how to use, or provide recommendations for, any particular GPX device or app.
Other considerations
Bear in mind that the GPS device or smartphone is something additional to be carrying, and you should consider the battery life, especially on a smartphone. Remember you may need it if you need to call for help. Consider taking a back-up battery .
Accuracy For those who are relatively new to using a GPS device, it is worth being aware that even in perfect conditions they are rarely accurate to just a few metres, and the routes on the computer map may not match those physically on the ground.
Stay safe and enjoy the walks..
